Here are some questions to consider as you observe the School Board meeting.

  • Think about the different roles that the School Board and the Board of Supervisors play in the community.  What are the limits of the School Board?  What are their responsibilities?
  • What seem to be the priorities of the School Board?  Are they consistent among members?
  • What are – and are not – the roles of the Superintendent of schools and the School Board members in the meeting?
  • How does the chairperson guide the Board through the meeting?
  • Did anything stand out to you about the discussion between School Board members?  Did you wish for more or less discussion?
  • What factors do School Board members take into consideration while making decisions?  Did any of the factors surprise you?  Did you wish they had considered factors they failed to mention?
  • Who attends School Board meetings, who speaks, what are their concerns, etc.?  Is the community as engaged as you expected?
  • Did anything about the meeting surprise you?

Instead of the usual evaluation form, we will post a Survey Monkey questionnaire about your observations after the meeting.  Please complete it within 2 or 3 days.   All responses will be shared with the rest of the class (without names).
